I have just installed PC BSD 7.1 with KDE and ran into a problem. The display is about a half inch to the left, about half the flame ball, and the controls on the Dell E198FP monitor don't have any effect on it.
I have not been able to locate any information on adjusting this here or on the PC-BSD site, nor on the Dell site. |

Does this occur at the login screen ( K/G/XDM ) or at a virtual terminal?

I'm uncertain of your question. The problem is unlikely to be the monitor as the command line display is okay, as is the GUI when I run Ubuntu (what I'm posting with), and DOS and Win98SE were both displayed properly with my old mobo. (This mobo is an ASUS P5QPL-VM EPU, using the onboard video, Intel chipset.) |

In FreeBSD, does this occur at the login screen?

I do not see a graphic log in screen for free BSD, if that's what you are talking about. The command line log in shows for a couple of seconds, then it goes to the black and white screen with the "X" then to KDE. If you are talking about the ASCII art menu for selecting regular, safe, boot commands, that's displayed properly. If I vanish it's because my work load has just increased dramatically and I've had to drop the subject for a while. |

Please check the Xorg configuration in FreeBSD is correct. You may be able to copy /etc/xorg.conf from Ubuntu to FreeBSD. Please ensure that the appropriate NVidia / ATi drivers are installed if needed also.

Thanks. That gives me two places to start looking. |

Project abandoned. Got a new monitor, will try again later. (The display runs about an eighth of an inch the other direction with WinXP,and will not adjust. Suspect hardware problem with the monitor.)
