My 1920 * 1200 external monitor is only taking 1280 * 1024 resolution only. The display settings is identifying only that much.
How can I make it to take full resolution? Please help

Please check your xorg.conf file. It may need to be configured with the needed lines to enable this support. Your distribution should have tools to configure X.

My xorg conf is empty . Just

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "DontZap" "False"
EndSection

My friends laptop with same configuration works with the same monitor. Thoug he has to visit system settings display everytime.

I now have my xorg.conf like this, which is same as my friend's where it is working.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Are there any hardware / software version differences between the two computers?
