My distro is Backtrack 4, based on Ubuntu, it comes with KDE3.
When you first install Backtrack 4, the Desktop path is "~/", but I wanted it to be"~/desktop". On the KDE menu, I went to Settings->System Administration->Paths, and changed it to "~/desktop". Next thing I know, my computer goes bezzerk... reason being that KDE had the bright idea of moving the entire contents of my home folder into "~/desktop". It even moved the hidden stuff such as ".kde3" and ".mozilla". I had to exit KDE, move everything back, and re-start KDE. Thankfully nothing got corrupted, but a lot of damage could have been done. In future I will edit the following file instead of using the GUI: ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs My suggestion is either: a) Change the GUI so that it doesn't move all your stuff. or b) At least add an option to the GUI that asks if you want everything moved (and give a warning about moving everything from the home folder). |

That is likely not the correct file, which is probably located under ~/.kde/share/config/ probably in the file kdeglobals
