I have a problem in that I cannot seem to be able to set any window to use the "Active opacity in %" or "Inactive opacity in %" setting effectively -i.e. nothing changes and opacity remains at 100%.

Opacity settings work correctly by manually choosing from the context menu on right clicking the decoration, however I particularly wish to alter the opacity settings for a window that has no decorations (border) - Conky.

I saw this anomaly in kde 4.1, 4.2 and now using 4.3 RC2, I still can't seem to make it work.

If anyone can give a clue as to suitable settings I would appreciate it.

Waiting eagerly in anticipation ;),

Well, I'd like to add some more info to make this clearer.

Let's take, for example, Dolphin. Here I set the Window class:

Now, the preferences for active and inactive opacity @ 50%:

As you can see, after applying the settings, Dolphin's opacity remains at 100%. (Except for the deco' which is set from desktop effects):

I'm just wondering if there's either a problem with my settings, or if there's a bug either in Kubuntu's imlementation of KDE or whether this setting is intentionally disabled?

Can anyone confirm either way if it's working correctly or not for them?

Thanks!

Do you have Desktop Effects enabled? It cannot work unless they are.

Hi,

Yes I do have them enabled and there's no problems with any other aspect of them.

Can I assume that this works OK for you?

The (Window) > (Right Click Titlebar) > Opacity menu most certainly does.
For the Window Behaviour configuration dialog it does not ( which is most certainly a bug ). Please report it at bugs.kde.org if it hasn't yet been reported.

I use KDE-Trunk, at svn revision 1001270 when I last updated.

Right - That's the behaviour I'm seeing.

Now I see there is already a bug opened here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167138.

Thanks for checking.

Just posting to add that this was solved with the release of KDE 4.3.1.

Thanks to Thomas Lübking for his solution.

Cheers!
