Hi,
I switched to kde4 and everything is perfect except panel resizing when i turn on/off desktop effects and glitching when browsing internet. Glitching really annoys me, i can see it very frequently, just open youtube video, scroll down, and then up and you will get black lines instead of video description. This happens both in kde 4.2 and 4.3, i think it's qt 4.5 foult but im not sure. These glitchings really annoys me, maybe theres a patch or something, or at least the bug has been confirmed? Thanks P.S im using kdemod. ![]() |

Try disabling "Smooth scrolling" in Konqueror.

Well, i never use smooth scrolling, i always disable it. Look again, you will see that menubar has some glitches too. Its definitely not my browser problem, its the whole QT!!! Sometimes i see same glitches when browsing files in dolphin. Anyone else has this problem? Because theres chance that its the video card driver foult too. I have Ati open source driver Cheers |

You are right. The administrator was far too fast and to light on contemplation when he answered you.

@jimbo99: I excluded graphics driver issues because other applications were not affected. It is surprising what Flash can actually do to the Konqueror window.
Can you please try using the proprietary ATI driver or the Vesa driver?

This is no helpful comment at all. Please don't put people trying to help down. Thanks. |

I would like you, the administrator, to focus on solving the problems. We users need solutions; especially we do not need one liners. Try to ask for more precise info. Try to form a picture of what's happening and suggest what might be the cause. Give precise instructions. You seem like you are just playing devils advocate in an attempt to get your post count up.
We ask for help because we need help. |

Disabling potential problem-causing features is a standard part of the troubleshooting process. I see nothing wrong with bcooksley's suggestion.

@jimbo99: My instructions are precise, since I do not know which graphics card the OP has other than they use the open source ATI driver. Every distribution does things in a different manner, and I am unaware of the Arch or Kubuntu specific methods as a openSUSE user.
The procedure for using the proprietary ATI driver is usually done by installing the driver either through the package manager, from the package provided at ATI's website although actually enabling and using the driver is a distribution dependent method. Switching the driver is usually done by editing Xorg.conf, but it appears Ubuntu do it all by automatic detection, which does not always work, although Arch probably still use it.

@jimbo99:
Before any further statements you should read up on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum#User_groups It explains, why neither Admins nor Moderators are just there to solve any problems. Afterall, this is a community driven project, we do it for free. Everybody is willing to help and search for the problem. But your comments don't help us on this way. And this is not the first time. Think about it. |

Hey, im back.
I upgraded to xserver-xorg 1.6.3 and the problem is solved but the scrolling became very laggy when site has flash. I must say that this problem returned from xserver 1.5 back to 1.6.1. but the interesting thing is that theres no slow scrolling in 1.6.0, but i see glitches only in 1.6.0 release. i tried to report that bug, but none of xorg developers responded to me ![]() i downgraded back to 1.6.0, i better see glitches or switch back to gnome instead of having slow scrolling in any environment/browser. EDIT: I opened konqueror with -graphicssystem raster command and now i dont see any glitches! i also found that plasma is way faster with raster. So the new question how can i make that my kde would always use raster by default to all qt apps? Thank you. |

Automatically using the Raster graphics system is only possible by using a command line switch to the application, or during the configuration stage of the Qt compilation. Unfortunately, using the Raster graphics system is not possible for certain applications such as KWin, since it interferes in its operations.
You will need to edit the shortcuts for each application individually to include this switch.

Thanks, but do you know how to autostart plasma with raster, because i dont have idea what to do with it. |

I installed a patched version of Qt that uses the Raster engine by default and kwin runs just fine. Apparently it selects the correct graphics system by itself. The Qt devs should really include a global config option to select the default graphicssystem. Or at least make Raster the default. I read in a Trolltech developer's blog that Raster performs faster than the "native" graphics system in almost any case on both Linux and Mac OS (and raster is the same as native on Windows). I can't see why they don't make it the default. At least until the "native" or OpenGL backends have been improved. |
