Hi,
I have a strange issue with 4.3 I just upgraded to. In my /etc/xdg/autostart there are two entries: for wicd tray icon:
and for hplip tray icon:
In 4.2 both worked, after I upgraded to 4.3 the first one is no longer ran when KDE starts. I can still get it to work by double-clicking it, but it should auto-start. The second one (hplip) is working fine. Why? What's the difference between them? Just thought of it: is it because of the "X-KDE-autostart-after=panel"? Edit: no, it's not. |

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce. Please ensure that the file is owned by root or is executable.

Just wondering...did you do anything in particular to make hplip work as it should? The reason I'm asking is because when I have hplip installed I far too often get a window upon logging that says "No systray detected on this system. Exiting..." and the rest of the desktop refuses to load. I only got that when upgrading to 4.3 final. It worked fine in 4.2 and all the 4.3 RCs.

bcooksley: I made the files executable, but it didn't help. However I noticed, that if I boot the computer, log in to kde, log out and back in, then the icon shows. Any thoughts on this?
Kryten2X4B: no, I've never had any problems with that.

Interesting. Please disable / remove the autostart launcher by moving it to a different location, then upon starting KDE for the first time, open Konsole and enter the command shown in the desktop file. Does it work then?

Open Konsole and enter "wicd-client -n". Wicd-client should start.
From Wicd Network Manager GUI, choose Preferences -> General Settings... and disable option "Display notifications about connection status". Quit. Start application using "wicd-client" command (no -n switch). There is no visible icon on tray, but wicd is up and working. From my point of view, root of problem is interoperability of gtk.StatusIcon and KDE's tray. |
