hello,
i have kde4 installed and want to change the color scheme for some kde3 apps on my system. kcontrol isnt installed anymore so i want to do that manually by editing the files by hand. i copied a .kscrc file to .kde/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes directory and changed the option colorScheme in .kde/share/config/kdeglobals to this .kscrc file. i tried /usr/.kde3.5/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes directory too. but that doesnt work, all my kde3 apps have the colors from my last color scheme that i configured with kcontrol. i fact i tried to install kcontrol again to change the color scheme but it doesnt show any options to configure, i dont know why... i wonder why i simply cant do this manually, maybe i have to execute a specific command after the change to take effect? in case it matters, i use gentoo any help would be appreciated regards, potato

some distro's seperate the kcm ( k control modules ) from kcontrol. Search in your package manager for packages with "kcm" in the title. Be aware that KDE4 also uses it's own kcm's but they ignore each other ( ie. no kcontrol modules in systemsettings and vice versa )

the only package with kcm in its name is kcminit, i installed it but nothing has changed, the control center doesnt show up anything...
do you know why kde3 doesnt accept my manual changes to the config file? in case its the right file it should have an effect... after some days of trying to change the color i can now accept the different colors in some of my apps suggestions are welcome anyway... regards, potato
