I find it usable as is for now (kde3libs running), but would prefer using a native app.

KSysGuard has decent monitoring abilities in KDE 4. It can monitor battery usage, level, CPU usage, load, memory usage, hard disk access ( per storage device ), network activity, etc.

Yes it does, but it cannot sit in the systemtray and give you an icon with the temp. The closest thing to it is the plasma widget System Monitor Temperature that seems to need some work still. Maybe in kde 4.3.1. Still, it would be nice to have ksensors ported.

I use gKrellm and probably would no matter what, it is that good. There does not appear to be a performance hit from it and I found a skin that is very similar to my desktop theme. Of course it doesn't sit is the panel. I display cpu utiliziations (both cpu's), top (3 process limit),temps (core 1&2 & mb), fan speeds (case and cpu), disk activity (by whole disk, but could do by partition), network activity (up & down), memory and swap used and partition utilization for 3 of my partitions.

"When will ksensors or a substitute be available for kde4 ?"
I support this request. Also looking for Kcpuload replacement (nothing as good). Widgets placed on the desktop are good for decoration, but systray app's are more useful. |

I must say I can't remember exactly how kcpuload worked (as in: was it a kicker applet? Something that lived in the systray?), but for me I've noticed that the system load plasmoid is good enough to get a decent (not perfect but decent) overview and if I need more detailed info kps is always a good choice (not a standard part though, but available from http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph ... ent=110732). Yes, it's strictly speaking not a cpuload tool but if you ask me, a ps-list is far more useful than a "Average load: 0.15" if you want to see what's hogging your cpu.

kcpuload is a small CPU activity graph in the systray (like CPU taskmanager of windows).
This kind of app is always what I install first in KDE, with Ksensors. By now, I need KDE3 libs just for kcpuload and ksensors. Really missing in KDE4. EDIT: may be this one: System Monitor 2 => http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph ... ent=110181 (will see if a package is available in the coming days) |

Back to "When will ksensors or a substitute be available for kde4 ?"
Still no clue for ksensors/kde4 ? |

My guess is that it won't, upstream has been dead for so long that unless some new developers take it on, I doubt it ever will be.

Plasmoids for cpu load and cpu temperature can both be in the systemtray. This is 4.3.1, though, so maybe it's a matter of updating your system?

I am aware of the bubblemon thats pretty good at doing that from the system tray but it doesn't give you a number, nor does system temperature, in fact neither of them really work properly yet, they don't read in F and they are not configurable enough. They are really not a replacement for ksensors yet.

ksensors takes a very small place in the systray (= where is kmix) and includes alert features.
"plasmoïds" cannot be droped in the systray as far as I know, but in the taskbar, and are far too big/wide (the size cannot be adjusted). |

Not yet. Plasmoids are, if I've understood it correctly, possible to embed in the systray once KDE 4.4 is released.

@billydv: If units are not shown in F, then you need to make sure your unit system is set correctly in System Settings > Regional & Language > Country / Region & Language > Other. I believe "Imperial" is the correct one for "F" units.
