Hi,
I use the slide show feature to set my background picture. I created an "Background pictures" folder and linked the better holiday pictures to this folder. There are currently approx. 700 links in this folder. Up to KDE 4.2.4 everything worked fine on my Fedora 11 machine. Since KDE 4.3 I experience a 20-30 seconds delay during KDE start up. After the splash screen I can see an empty background and the task bar. It is not possible to use the computer during this time. The hard disk is very busy and just before the computer becomes usable after the 20-30s I see a box - it seems as if the computer creates an index of all the pictures. The computer works without problems if a single background picture is used or if the number of pictures for the slide show is small. My question: Are there other ppl who experience the same problem? Is there any settings to disable or delay the automatic indexing? Thanks for your help! |

This was an "efficiency" added in KDE 4.3 as some users were having problems with the handling of Wallpapers. This is obviously a regression in your case, which needs to be reported to bugs.kde.org so a compromise can be worked out for KDE 4.4 ( theoretically the cache should only be changed for new images, not previously existing and unchanged images )

Thanks for pointing to bugs.kde.org. Seems as if other ppl already reported the problem: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=190632
