Hello folks,

I recently helped a friend install OpenSuSE 11.1 with KDE from the Factory Repo. Originally (KDE 4.3.0) it worked fine, but some time after the 4.3.1 update, she started having a problem in which the screen locks randomly, at an interval anywhere from less than a minute, to maybe ten or more minutes. I've checked the screensaver config files manually, and they appear normal - the screensaver is completely disabled, and it's definitely not occurring at the interval it would be set to if it were enabled. I haven't noticed anything else odd, but it makes the laptop rather unusable at times. I know this isn't much information to go on, but does anyone have any suggestions of what to check, so I can post more pertinent details here, or any ideas of what we can try to stop this problem?

Thanks,

If Powerdevil is activated, try checking its settings.

I would also check if there's a kwin-effect (if composite is on) in use that the laptop's graphic card may not be too keen on.

Kryten2X4B: To clarify, I meant the KDE screensaver lock is activated, not that the screen locks up (e.g. freezes).

bcooksley: I think I already did, but I'll double-check when I next see her. Thanks.

Ah, okay. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Still, continuing on bcooksley's train of thought: check if the "Display" (Computer Management->Display that is) powermanagement is turned on and whether its configuration may take precedence to what powerdevil is configured as. Personally, I fail to see why there's a display management in both powerdevil and the display module...

I turned off all display power management (not really needed, in this case), and it works fine. I haven't had a chance to isolate the option that was causing the problem yet, though. There are a few other odd issues with the install as well, but that's for another post.
Thanks :)
