Hello forum members and readers,

I bought a nice wireless keyboard and mouse for 15 euro.
However the movement of the mouse pointer is too rapid.
There seems to be no way to decrease this
using system settings - mouse and keyboard - mouse - advanced.

Before replying please note that I am not talking about _acceleration_
I would like to keep that on 2, but currently cannot since the
sensitivity is too high.

I googled and experimented, and it appears that I need to manually
edit HAL properties. Earlier this was handled in xwindows, but this
seems to be deprecated.

Thus I have the following two questions:
1. am I correct in assuming that there is no graph. conf. option for mouse sensitivity
2. How can I lower the sensitivity? Any help appreciated.

Correct, no graphical configuration option exists to control mouse sensitivity. I do not know if it will work with it, but you might be able to try "synclient", but I think this only works with Trackpads.

You may also wish to check the mouse's documentation as some come with controls on the mouse for sensitivity, etc.

Ok, thx for the reply.
I will try to set up an xorg.conf so that it neglects the HAL-reported keyboard and mouse and force settings to my liking.

I'm not sure if you have already tried this, but what about increasing the pointer threshold?

SystemSettings-> Keyboard&Mouse-> Mouse-> Advanced tab-> Pointer acceleration

Default is 2.0×, lower it to 1.0× an your mouse pointer will move half the speed it used to. ;)

@burntsushi: this option influences the onset of acceleration. How do you think this helps with my problem of too high sensitivity?

@Ghitzeria: In my post I told that I know what acceleration is, where it is, and that this is not the option I seek.

@bcooksly: Since you are the maintainer, can you indicate why mouse sensitivity cannot be set via system settings? Is this not possible because xset only allows acceleration and threshold to be changed? I guess the system module will have to be adapted anyway since this kind of settings are moving from the xserver towards HAL / solid? Would it be possible to add sensitivity?

Sorry, somehow I missed it. :(

Anyway, there are Option "Sensitivity" "<value>" and Option "Resolution" "<value>"
which you can add to your mouse section of xorg.conf. Try to experiment with values to adjust it to your needs.

@jwork123nl: I only maintain the main systemsettings application. the Mouse control panel is provided seperately, and maintained by another developer.

Ah I see.
Perhaps I will file a feature request against the kcontrol module then
