I'm new to this sort of thing, Kubuntu Linux I mean, and I can't seem to get Firefox to behave in a reasonable manner. For instance, this forum page is nearly one third off the screen to the right. All the print is huge -- I'm not that old yet --
So, three things: One: How do I control the font and the size of the font on the material that comes to the screen? Two: How do I control the size within the menus of Firefox itself? Three: What is the equivalent in linux fonts of: 1. Times New Roman 2. Arial, 3. Courier New. If anyone can help me sort this out I would be most grateful. Thank you, Bill. |

You need to set the font in Personal Settings>Appearance->Fonts. After that you need to make sure "Use my KDE fonts in GTK applications" is checked (Personal Settings-Appearance->GTK styles and fonts). I _think_ the latter is installed in Kubuntu by default, but haven't used it in a while so can't be 100 % sure.
You can get those precise fonts if you want to. Use Synaptics to look for mscorefonts or similarly named.

Thank you for your help. I was able to download the mscorefonts and I see them on the list. This may be a dumb question but where to I find (Personal Settings-Appearance->GTK styles and fonts) I can't find it on Firefox 3.0.14. Bill. |

I think Kryten2X4B meant "System Settings -> Appearance -> ...".
if you can't find "GTK Styles and Fonts" (it's in Universe as far as I know; not a Kubuntu user myself).

Sorry about being unclear. It's not in Firefox. It's in KDE's "control panel" to use windows terminology. In the menu, it's called either Personal Settings, System Settings or something similar to that. The -> was only meant to show the way to find the correct place in the control-panel.

No problem, Hans helped me out and I got everything downloaded and then set up as you suggest. My firefox is now looking a little more like what I am used to. This KDE page still runs of the right hand side of the screen, so something is still off and I don't know what it is. Next time I am in Windows I will try the page in Firefox there and see if it is OK there. In the meantime if anyone has any ideas to solve the problem I would surely appreciate it. All the best, Bill. |

Hello Hans, attached are two snapshots. And no, I have not had this problem with other sites to this extent. I use www.cogeco.ca as my ISP and when I log on to their home page, it is a little tiny bit off but nothing to cause concern. Sorry Hans, would love have attached the screenshots but I can't find how you attach them. There is a tick in the box that says "Attach Sign" but I can't find it. Bill. |

You have to upload the images somewhere, for example on imageshack. Then post the URL here, or use the generate BBCode that looks something like this:

Here are the snapshots. They are on my website. Since talking to you last I went over to Konqueror and gave it a spin. It has the same problem and Snapshot3.png is www.genetree.com. I came over to Kubuntu because they it could run my printer. That is the only reason. Mandriva seemed to set up a whole lot easier and I was using KDE there. It seems with linux distributions that as you flee from one over a problem, you run into a new one in the next dist. http://www.catholicmissionleaflets.org/ ... pshot1.png http://www.catholicmissionleaflets.org/ ... pshot2.png http://www.catholicmissionleaflets.org/ ... pshot3.png Thank you for your help, Bill. |

That's a resolution problem, this website is designed for a minimum resolution of 1024 (in width) in mind. It works with most setups nowadays, even my netbook.
Are you sure you can't get a higher resolution? What type of computer do you use?

Hello,
I am trying to get my firefox to always display the scrollbars in kubuntu (karmic, up-to-date) (firefox 3.5.3) even when they are not needed to get around some pages jumping all the time. Does anyone here have a clue on how to achieve this? |

So that's the problem. In Windows, everything works fine so I'm sure I can get 1024 in Kubuntu. Thank you for your help Hans. Bill. |

Try using This stylish script (I have never used this and cannot vouch for its safety or security, use at your own risk). However, this is a KDE forum. Firefox is not KDE software, if you want help with firefox you should really be asking at a firefox or ubuntu forum, they are much more likely to have an answer than we are.
