You can use Nepomuk to tag, comment and rate files. Open Dolphin and focus a file or folder by clicking at the green plus. Now add a tag or write a comment or rate it (the panel "Information" offers these actions). You can use Strigi to search your filesystem. To configure that open Systemsettings -> open tab "Advanced" -> Click at "Desktop Search". If you want to search for files, tags or comments use the search bar in Dolphin.
Some information about these things:
http://nepomuk.kde.org/
http://userbase.kde.org/Nepomuk

I hope it helps you, Jan

Many thanks för the info 8)

I have a message in System settings saying: "Strigi service failed to initialize, most likely due to an installation problem".

I use openSUSE so I don't know how to fix this on KUbuntu. On openSUSE it helps to install the soprano sesame2 backend and the devel package of the Java Development Kit (JDK) you use. But I recommend you to search a bit on Google or hope that a KUbuntu guy sees this ;). Maybe have a look at the (K)Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/

If you have soprano-backend-sesame package installed (check using, dpkg -l <packagename>), try remving it completely and reinstalling it.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get purge soprano-backend-sesame && sudo apt-get install soprano-backend-sesame

You might need a reboot.

Thanks! I'll try that :-)
I added /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/server to /etc/ld.so.conf
And ran ldconfig, and now strigi is up.
