Dolphins everywhere

Tue Oct 27, 2009 9:26 pm
Hi,

I'm running Gentoo Linux and switched from KDE 3.5.10 to KDE 4.3.1 recently. Nearly everything went smooth and I removed KDE 3 last weekend.

One problem I noticed is that I see a lot of dolphin icons, for example under K-Menu/Exit (not sure how is it called in English) all entries show the dolphin icon.

Also the widget for screensaver and log off from KDE is using the dolphin icon.

In System Settings the help icon is the dolphin icon until I move the mouse over it. Then it changes to to a question mark.

One exception is the K-Menu widget, it now shows a big orange arrow pointing to the left (|<-).

How do I get the correct icons back?

Make sure you have the Oxygen-Icons package installed correctly. This is a component of KDESupport in KDE SVN. You may also wish to remove the contents of the following directories:

Code: Select all
/var/tmp/kdecache-$USER
/tmp/kde-$USER
/tmp/ksocket-$USER

Please do this outside a KDE session.
If you still experience the issue after the above, try running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental"

Thanks!!! :)

I had oxygen-icons installed, but reinstalling the package seems to have solved my problems.

I also removed the folders in /var/tmp and /tmp, just to be sure.

But now KDE4 looks nice again. And it seems this also fixed my icon problems on the panel. Before some icons were so large that they covered the icons next to them. Now they're all the same size.

Again, thanks for the fast and helpfull answer!
