Hi,

I could not find this topic already by the search functionality, so I open it as new one:

Is it possible to switch (back) to a string search dialog as known in former KDE versions (<4.x) instead of using this find-as-you-type mode?
Especially in large text files it is very annoying to wait for search results after each entered letter...

Furthermore, the former dialog provided many functionality like regexp search that is no longer present in all KDE programs, although some provide this functionality as option.

Hope, someone can help on this and knows where to change those modes. I am full of hopes that this option is still given despite the more "fancy" search style.

Regards,
Christian

I think you are talking of KRunner (the dialog which appears if you press Alt+F2)?
The plugin which causes the file searching is the nepomuk runner, you can disable it but then all support for nepomuk (tag search, file search and so on) is disabled. If you want to get this features out of KRunner you can use the search bar of Dolphin.
But as far as I know the current search mode is the only available one in KDE 4, so the KDE 3 style isn't available. You can ask for the mode you suggested at http://bugs.kde.org (report a wish) and you can report another wish to get regular expression support (search for existing ones first, please).

No, actually I am not talking about KRunner.

What I am talking about is string search within text files. This means, when pressing Ctrl-F instead of a dialog (KDE3 style) an input field at the bottom of the text window appears, where I can enter a corresponding string.
Unfortunately, entered text is applied for search already during typing which can be very awkward for large text files. I would prefer the old dialog mode, but I am not sure whether this option still exists.

A damn, sorry, I didn't read your text carefully enough :(

But you can file a bug report about the search window because I think it doesn't exist anymore.
