Hi,
I'm working with a java appl, representing the console display of a remote host, and want to send Ctrl-Alt-F1 to it, to cause the remote host switch to the text console. How can I "escape" the key combination? Normally, Ctrl-Alt-F1 is caught by the keyboard driver, and will switch locally at my PC to the text console. Is it possible, to map e.g. ctrlR-ctrlL-F1 to ctrl-alt-F1? Any other ideas? Thanks |

Unless you are communicating with some form of a KVM then this is not possible. Applications such as VNC Servers do not have this capability.

Actually, it is a KVM I want to send to. It spans a java window, but it doesn't provide a virtual keyboard. The question is: how will a (KVM) window receive Ctrl-Alt-F1 or similar key combinations? What the receiver will do with the key stroke, is a secondary question. Primarily I look for a way to inject a that key stroke into the application. Is there a tool which encapsulates an application and provides a virtual keyboard? |

Meanwhile I recognized, that the X-Server receives ctrlRight-altRight-F1 and sends it to KDE. If I could disable the display switching, it might be a way to transfer that key strokes to the application.
Where can I disable the short cut? How can I map the altRight and ctrlRight keys? I'm sure KDE 3.5 provided a means to do that. Now, I'm on KDE 4.3.3. |

Usually it is the responsibility of the KVM client / Emulator to provide Magic keys ( such as Right Alt/Ctrl + Fx for VirtualBox ) that perform the same role.
