Hi,

I'm a regular user of Ubuntu (Gnome) and today I gave KDE a run, to see whether I'd like to switch.

My experience didn't last too long however, since I couldn't get past the annoyance of having the word "Favorites" thrust at me by the Application Launcher menu (the (K) in the bottom left-hand corner).

Despite having English (Australian) as my system language, I was still confronted with American spellings. FYI - In my language the word is "Favourites"...

Seriously though: I hunted high and low for settings, configuration options, text properties files - then on the internet for "Kickoff" translation projects, etc, etc.. But it seems that as far as KDE's concerned, if you speak English, you speak American!

Anyone have any enlightenment for a disillusioned Aussie?

KDE has only two en language variants: en_US in the code and the translation en_GB.
More Information about the KDE translations you find on the KDE Localization web site http://l10n.kde.org/.
As you can see there, KDE does not have a translation team en_AU.

But it is easy to change that, please read http://l10n.kde.org/docs/translation-ho ... ation.html.

I'll have a go at creating the en_AU language variant for KDE when I get some free time.

One more question though: 99.99% of the time, en_AU will be the same as en_GB. Is there a way of 'inheriting' the en_GB as a starting point (so future changes to en_GB are automatically changed in en_AU), or do I have to keep copying the latest en_GB translation files over to en_AU and adding the 'delta' of Australian-specific words?

Each language is merged once a day by Scripty (the i18n tool chain) with the master, that is language en_US in the code.
But it is simple to checkout en_GB and merge it as master reusing the existing scripts with en_AU, just adapt the bash scripts in l10n-kde4/scripts.
For applying spelling changes like "Favorites" -> "Favourites" could be done using Pology from l10n-support.
Prepare a list of all the deltas between en_US/en_GB/en_AU (spelling, wording, grammar) etc and mail the translators list kde-i18n-doc@kde.org asking for inclusion/help then.
