I am using Fedora 11 and KDE 4.3. I am using ATI Radeon Video display card. When using KDE 4.3 the X Server restarts for no reason. It restarts and comes to the KDE login screen. It happens everytime when I try to use yahoo mail or while attaching files in GMail or sometimes while opening some file from my computer.
I really love to use KDE. But these minor defects is annoying me! Please help. Thanks Nitin |

Does it only happen when you use KDE? What does the xorg log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log(.old)) say?
I doubt it's a KDE issue. I've had problems with xorg "randomly" crashing, but an update seems to have fixed it. Never found out the cause behind the crashes.

None of things you are doing sound related to KDE. What web browser are you using? What makes you think it is KDE-related and not related to Fedora, your web browser, or the websites?

had an similar problem in that X-server would seg fault and kde would restart but with Nvidia card - an upgrade of the Nvidia drivers solved it.
also think the idea of trying a diff browser is a good one if the restarts happen only when browsing |

I use Fedora 11 and KDE 4.3. I can assure you that this is not a KDE issue, nor is it a Fedora issue. As others have hinted, this is a video driver issue. You may need a driver update. If you are using the proprietary drivers for the graphics card, try the free drivers. I have seen other issues mentioned with Radeon HD drivers and fglrx drivers.

I'm having the same problem with my computer. My KDE restarts for no reason and goes back to the login screen. My computer is an XPS M2010 "ATI® MobilityTM RADEONTM X1800". I have Fedora 11 and KDE 4.3. One of these posting talks about reinstalling the video drive and using one of the free ones. Can anybody post a real solution...?

@Icamilo: Try getting a copy of ~/.xsession-errors before logging in again after it has crashed on you. You can do this through switching to a virtual terminal.
