Hi!
I changed the name of my user profile in KDE 4, and I noticed that Dolphin didn't realise this. For example, the "Home folder" pointed still to the old directory. To change this was very easy; however, I noticed that Dolphin doesn't save the different folders' viewing settings, and it takes longer to access Windows partitions. For comparison, I created a new KDE profile and everything went fine there. So obviously Dolphin has got a hiccup and I would like to restore a default profile for Dolphin in the hope that it will behave normally again. Thanks! |

Try removing the $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/apps/dolphin folder.
NOTE: This will erase any profiles you have in Dolphin.

Do I have to type in exactly the string you gave me? I suppose I have to execute this as root? I get the message "/root/.kde4/ is a directory".

This command needs to be executed in Konsole, running as your user, with Dolphin closed.

I did as you said and I got again the message "<folder path> is a directory". What about just going there with Konqueror and deleting the dolphin directory?

Oops. I forgot part of the command.

This time I didn't get any sort of error message, but Dolphin's profile is still the same (same customized settings), even after an immediate reboot.

Try the following ( with Dolphin and Konqueror closed )

It worked! The only thing remaining is that Dolphin seems to not saving viewing properties for my FAT32 partitions. The "Details" view remains for my NTFS partitions, but not for my FAT32 partitions. Strange.

It is possible that FAT32 does not support the file name ".directory" or they are not writable. If they are not writable, or FAT32 doesn't support the ".directory" files used by Dolphin to store this data, then the settings will not be saved.
