Warning: I'm ****, again.
as bad as konqueror is, dalphin is worse... it's a wast even offering it. in Konqueror4; *i want the **** 'search' gone from the 'location bar'. i don't use it as a browser and want my 'location' to reflect the long paths on my network! *i want some sort of 'status bar' so that i Don't have to 'select all' in order to simply see how may files are in a directory. *i want the **** 'nav panel' to actually do something. can't see all directories in it, can't drag to it, can't use it, it's useless! *i want the ability to use keyboard to activate items on a context menu. i.e. right click> create new> I should be able to just hit 'F' for folder. *i want right click 'select all' (there is no way, other than ctrl+a to select all, not even in a menu (file, edit etc). Even when you've ctrl+a and select all, again with status, there is no indication of how many files you have selected. I can Not believe that the 'computer geeks' that are coding this stuff, find no need to know if the number of files they are selecting (ctrl+a), is the number of files they expect to del, copy, move, package etc.. you can't even click on one file and then scroll down or up and shift+click to select everything in between. it blows my mind how dumb, smart people are. *i want right click> past here (this would include content of 'clip board' as text as file. *i want right click 'open counsel here' (open terminal here). *i want this **** to **** stop locking up! Thank you for listening, i needed to Vent! *most important, right now is to remove the 'search' form location. It is Not in the toolbar configuration options. Where's it coming from? LandisReed. i'm sick of locking up and restarting, but am willing to, if it means you get information you can use to make it better and kick willy gates in the nuts!

In the toolbar configuration, select the "search bar" from the dropdown, and remove the search bar from it.
For everything else, I don't have any of the problems you described (other than that a few of the things are in the main menu instead of the right-click (because if you had everything in there, you'd be able to find nothing). If you're using an old version of KDE, you should really upgrade. Also, please chill out...

thanks but if you're talking about 'settings> toolbars> 'toolbars'>(drop down, select)>'search toolbar', i have and there is Nothing in it and there is only location and go in the location bar.. guess again, please.
..you're telling me you have no need for knowing how many files you have selected (what if you expect to del 8 or 9 files and oops, you selected 10.. how would you know (i know the move to trash dialog comes up and you can check it there, but wouldn't it be nice in a 'status line', somewhere?) or the ability to drag a folder to another folder in the file tree of the nav panel? how about... i have to believe that you are that in love with your mouse that you just don't want to ever use your keyboard. lol i'd like to actually do some work and spend less time petting my mouse. back and forth, back and forth... No, right click> menu, shortcut key whatever.... done. again, thanks for your comments. Landis. |

Which version of KDE are you using? Since your using openSUSE ( probably 11.1 ) you will have KDE 4.1 unless you upgraded from the Build Service.
If this is your version, you may find it helpful to update.

As I said, everything you described is there. Here's a screenshot the statusbar, just for you:
That was uncalled for.

There's no need to be rude. I would have thought that you knew by now that you can configure the toolbar, and yes, you can remove the searchbar. Perhaps if you'd looked at your options instead of ranting you'd have found it.

Alec, i know and i'm Sorry. I started by warning of my frustration. Again, Sorry and thank you. I still don't see an info in the 'status bar' area or anywhere else for that matter. Is it because i'm running KDE 4.1? Landis. |

You should just be able to add the KDE 4.3 Build Service Repository ( like you did to get the development version of Firefox ) then YaST > Software Management.
Change filter to "Repositories", and select your KDE 4.3 repository. Then Package > All in this list > Update if newer version available and accept.

bcooksley,
thank you for your input... but i know 'how to update', my Question is will i loose my current configuration, settings, look and feel (personal settings)?? is 4.1 to 4.3 a minor enough update to not turn out to be a major update 3 to 4?? what if anything am i going to loose, i welcome gains, just don't want to LOOSE AnyThing. you have to know how long it takes to get your primary workstation to 'feel right' to you. i need to get work Done, not spend a bunch of time 're-configuring' stuff, i.e., pdf printer, konqueror session settings, gqview, translator etc., you know, the general look and feel (without the useless plasma panel, still haven't found a use for that), my task bar settings, Etc... Thank you again, everyone. LandisReed. |

While your data should be mostly safe, and should transition ok, you should still take a backup of ~/.kde4 before hand ( while outside a KDE session ). The only thing that may need reconfiguring will be the Plasma desktop. I would recommend a new user to be absolutely safe. It should not be as major as 3 to 4 though.

While it is not the transition of 3->4 (whole new desktop), 4.1->4.3 is a fairly substantial upgrade. As bcooksley mentioned: most settings should stick through the upgrade, however you should be prepared to go through and put things back which may get moved around, change some habits because this or that got removed or added. In the end, you should find that the results are worth the upgrade as 4.3 is a lot more stable, usable and complete than 4.1 was.
Edit: You should also double-check the OpenSuse release announcements and notes to find out what all they have changed between 11.1 and 11.2 as from what I've read it is a fairly significant release from the distro's perspective.
