Hi,
I have kde 4.3.3 running on a thinkpad with 2 external monitors attached to my docking-station => xrandr --output DVI-0 --auto --output VGA-0 --auto --right-of DVI-0. The VGA-0 screen extends the main monitor (DVI-0) fine but whenever I create a file/link/directory on my desktop it is shown on both monitors. How can I make it appear on one monitor exclusively? Best, getagrip |

Are you using seperate activities on each monitor?

Yes, exactly, e.g. I have my browser open on the left and an editor open on the right monitor but every file created on any desktop appears on both screens. |

By activities, bcooksley was referring to plasma activities (you can view the activities by clicking on the cashew in the corner -> Zoom out. This is called the ZUI, and here you can add or remove plasma activities. An activity is basically a plasma configuration - a set of plasmoids and a background).
If both of the monitors are using the same plasma activity, they will show the same desktop icons (similarly if they are both showing a folder view of the Destkop folder or other common folder).
