extended desktop

Tue Nov 24, 2009 9:25 pm
Hi,

I have kde 4.3.3 running on a thinkpad with 2 external monitors attached to my docking-station =>
xrandr --output DVI-0 --auto --output VGA-0 --auto --right-of DVI-0.
The VGA-0 screen extends the main monitor (DVI-0) fine but whenever I create a file/link/directory on my desktop it is shown on both monitors.
How can I make it appear on one monitor exclusively?

Best, getagrip

Are you using seperate activities on each monitor?

Code: Select all
Are you using seperate activities on each monitor?

Yes, exactly, e.g. I have my browser open on the left and an editor open on the right monitor but every file created on any desktop appears on both screens.

By activities, bcooksley was referring to plasma activities (you can view the activities by clicking on the cashew in the corner -> Zoom out. This is called the ZUI, and here you can add or remove plasma activities. An activity is basically a plasma configuration - a set of plasmoids and a background).
If both of the monitors are using the same plasma activity, they will show the same desktop icons (similarly if they are both showing a folder view of the Destkop folder or other common folder).
