I'm trying to make 3d acceleration work on my machine.
However, if I enable "Desktop Effects" in KDE's System Settings I get the following error: "Failed to activate desktops effects using the given configuration options.." I have unchecked all effects in the "All Effects" tab. Compositing type is "OpenGL" in the "Advanced" tab. card : ATI Mobility X1400 driver : xf86-video-ati 6.12.99.git20091014-1 xorg : xorg-server 1.7.1.902-1 desktop : kdemod-4.3.3 WITHOUT xorg.conf kernel : 2.6.31-ARCH with KMS enabled
I have disabled/enabled KMS and used a minimal xorg.conf to no avail. Everytime I "Resume Compositing" I get the message "Compositing has been suspended by another application. You can resume using the ALT+SHIFT+F12 shortcut". That does not work either.... I just wish I knew what the "another application" is. Maybe one can pipe it's stderr output to....? |

Is this on a desktop or a laptop, since Powerdevil may have requested that effects be deactivated to save power.

Yes, it's a t-60 laptop, but in a docking-station with the "performance" power-profile active.

KMS and DRI2 are still unstable, i dont know why arch devs decided to use them by default. The only suggestion i can give you right now is to downgrade xorg, follow the instructions:
