Hello, I'm using both English and Russian keyboard layouts, and I've grown accustomed to switching between them with right ctrl + left shift, so I chose Ctrl+Shift in the Keyboard Layout settings. Unfortunately, pressing left ctrl+left shift also triggers the change, which conflicts with some of my text editing habits (like selecting all text in the window below and including the current line with left ctrl+left shift+end). How can I tell the layout hotkeys to ignore the left ctrl key? I did it somehow in KDE 3.5 long ago, but can't remember it now.

Thanks.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be available from the GUI. Open the Keyboard Layout KCM, and change the text "-option grp:ctrl_shift_toggle" in the command box to "-option grp:rctrl_rshift_toggle", then click Apply.

Thanks, I opened up ~/.kde/share/config/kxkbrc and set it there, then restarted the session. Alas, for some reason it doesn't seem to work at all, neither does grp:rctrl_lshift_toggle. So, on one of the web forums I read a suggestion made by a blind typist that alt+shift combo is much more convenient to switch layouts: both hands are at their usual position at the center of the keyboard, then when a need comes to switch languages, the right thumb hits the right alt, and the left pinky hits the left Shift - that's it, all without moving away from the center too much, and thus faster. It could probably be better, I've been trying to relearn my habits all morning ;-)
