I don't know what I did (possibly a ctrl-q), but I cannot access any wallpaper for the desktop. There is now just a solid color. Everything works fine...all icons and other desktop items are still there and working. Just no wallpaper. And when I go to the appearance window all of the default wallpapers are indicated, but the monitor icon on the right hand side steadfastly remains a solid color, regardless of what wallpaper I might choose.
Thanks in advance... Rem |

You may have some cache corruption. Open Konsole and type the following:

I have the exact same issue as remegius. When I input what you wrote exactly it returns "Illegal variable name." Any other ideas?

Just re-installed PCBSD 7.1.1 and after about 4 reboots it has done it again. Desktop is a solid color and the Plasma Workspace will not accept an image nor will it update the preview.
Guess I'll check back at the start of next semester when someone's actually around... or has opensource actually changed and begun allowing people in over college age to release buggy **** as "Stable"? Oh, it used to be so simple back when kids assumed that everyone else in the world had just as much free time to waste as they did. Take me for example, I've got 24 **** hours a day to waste playing with a bug that's been known of for over a month now. Take it or leave it. Guess Gnome's next, after that I may just decide that upgrading to Windows 7 is way cheaper than gang-hacking patchwork *nix frankinservers for a few hundred hours per year that could have been spent outside walking a dog, not indoors popping tylenol just to keep my eyes from bleeding. Then I might not be on the cutting-edge or trendily wagoneering a movement but at least I'll have huge chunks of my life, pride and sanity back. Night. Oh and btw... Konquerer sucks and Merry **** Christmas. |

This is a qt issue in how PCBSD specifically integrates KDE. Installing qt4 (or seemingly any other qt version) by itself is apparently a no no and points directly to why PBI's and any other exe mimicing wrappers are slowly pushing Berkley further and further north until one day the campus itself may just wake up in Redmond Washington. What library? What Registry? I'm self contained, baby!!! Don't make me try to share, everybody get your own (self contained wrapper of libraries that should be global)!!!

@Inn-Bound: Please do not try to avoid our content filters, see the Forum Policy:
Note that the command I provided to assist fixing the issue depends on "id" which is part of GNU Coreutils. Also it may depend upon bash specific script syntax. You may find a more easier KDE experience on Linux, with distributions such as openSUSE.
