I'm sure this has been brought up before, but, I can't find it now. I use two different distributions of Linux: Fedora 12, x86_64 and Linux Mint 8, i386, both with KDE 4.3.3 desktops. I used to use Kubuntu desktop on the Linux Mint and thought that might have been the problem so I reinstalled it with just KDE. The problem is consistent; login or restart and the screen is blue. It forgets to use my wallpaper. I can right click and go to desktop settings and the settings are still there, click OK and they return to normal, but, with four virtual desktops that's a lot of clicking. It does not seem to make a difference whether I use slideshow or image, so it is not that. This might be a bug that you have not ironed out. It is disconcerting to find out it happens even without Kubuntu additives. There are too many bugs in straight Ubuntu anyway. Any comments or suggestions would be nice.

Try creating a new user and test if you can reproduce there.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, nothing changed with a different user. I had a separate user already in Mint (Guest) and I just added one in Fedora with the exact same results, different distros with one thing in common KDE.

Can you check the contents of /etc/kde4rc? Look for the entry "prefixes", and change to that directory ( it is /etc/kde4 for me ) Then open below it share/config. Check for anything Plasma related, and post their contents here.

Under/root/etc/kde4 (no kde4rc) there is backgroundrc, kdm.options, kdmrc, readme, Xaccess, Xreset, Xsession, Xsetup, Xstartup and Xwilling. No reference to share/config or prefixes
Looked under /usr/bob/kde and nothing like that there either.

Added note: Checked first under Linux Mint, Now under Fedora same basic things.

Do you have Desktop Effects enabled of any form on logon?

Yes, Desktop Effects including the standards checked and Desktop Cube using four virtual desktops on both systems. If I take that out I will have only, one I believe. I use them to switch between different applications. Neater than just using the task bar.

there is a bug about it. When you say you set a wallpaper, do you set a default wallpaper of KDE, or your own pictures?

Yeah, if you read the bug report I'm in there too, using Karmic at the time. Your former question about the form of wallpaper, I use my own separate folders in slide shows. I tried my own pictures as an image with the same results. Nothing seems to change, the bug was never fixed.
