during installation of openSuSE 11.2 and KDE 4.3 i selected Network Manager instead of if... what ever is the default and every time i reboot, i can Not use my browser.. i can see other systems on my local network and ping any address (IP) but i don't seem to have DNS... console> su> nslookup> server shows only local loop, 127.... if i open Network Manager (NM) there is nothing there. I've added a 'new connection' and selected Auto Connect, but there is no way to make it 'default' and there is no other entry to delete, but in the system tray there is the 'system' connection and it always shows up first. if i double click the connection i've added it will connect and move to the top of the list of 2 and my browser will work.
Meanwhile the 'system' connection, i hover over it with my mouse, says, in the info 'bubble' that it (system) has a local ip and shows my DNS servers (1 and 2)... Weird. Landis. ЛандисРеед.ком |

If you like, you can enable the non-NetworkManager networking from Yast->Hardware->network car, and select the networking method as "traditional ifup on boot" or something similar (don't remember exactly).

use Yast to switch to the traditional networking as described above, then be sure the openSUSE repositories for Update and OSS are enabled. then use Yast to update NetworkManager, i am using version 0.7.1_git20090811-4.2 and it works. note you might need to log in to the GUI as root once for some reason i don't know before everything will work for normal users.
Just set the plate down, and back away slowly.
