Hi,
I've got a laptop with opensuse 11.1 64 bit. This laptop is wireless connected with a Epson Stylus SX600FW allinone printer/scanner/copier. I use as driver pipslite from avasys and the connnection type is appsocket/jetdirect. Printing with this printer/driver works fine in any application, like openoffice.org, firefox or kde3 applications, but not with any kde4 application.. I checked the log file /var/log/cups/error.log and noticed these lines:
both cups and kde4 have A4 as default paper size configured. i googled for the error messages, and i get the idea that kde4 sends a US Letter sized file to the printer, while it is a A4 printer. Is anyone familiar with this problem and how to fix it? Regards, Rinse [edit: changed title as it happens with other epson printers too]

This weekend i'm going to check out on a different installation, using a slightly different epson all in one printer if kde4 applications are printing correctly from it.
If it doesn't, it would be the 3th situation in which kde4 has trouble printing correctly, while any other application works as expected..

Just tried in a different machine with opensuse 11.2 32 bit and a epson stylus 300bx allinone printer.
Same result. |

Can you confirm that the KDE Print Dialog's have the correct paper size ( if present ) selected?

Yes, the page size at [print->settings->general and ->advanced] is a4.
Kind regards, Rinse

If you test with a basic KWrite document does it fail?

thanks for your reply.
With kwrite, same error message in cups. I did notice something, dunno if it is related: at [print -> properties -> page size, i see a combobox in which i can select the paper size. Default is a4 (210 x 297) Below the paper size, there is a grayed out entry with 2 comboboxes for width and height. The combobox for [Width] contains the size 209,90 and the combobox for [height] contains 0,00

That certainly sounds like the A4 size has a bug in its implementation. If you have any other Qt4 application capable of printing available for testing, then see if it is also affected, since KDE uses Qt's printing architecture ( with some components added on )

i've installed juffed for that purpose, and although its printing dialog also shows 0,0 as paper height, it does print out the page with the epson printer.

As a last test, check to see if it works under a new user. If it doesn't, please file a bug at bugs.kde.org, otherwise it looks like a configuration file will need altering.

Thanks for your reply.
I will try that tomorrow, althoug i don't expect any difference (since this happens on 2 different computers, both having a brand new installation with hardly any alterings) I also tried changing the locale to see if that matters, but it gave the same effect..

Meanwhile, i noticed that the newest gutenprint drivers also include both epson printers.
Installed it and the epson stylus office bx300f is printing fine with kde4 using the gutenprint drivers..

Is this issue resolved now?

Not completely, but i guess the follow up should continue in bugs.kde.org or at avasys (creator of pipslite) as it looks like a bug in either system.
Gutenprint works as expected, so i'm no longer without printing capabilities using kde4 applications ![]() Thanks for your time and helping out. Regards, Rinse
