Hi,
I was wondering if KDE4's settings were "portable" enough; that is, that they could be transferred from a computer to another, or from a Linux installation to another on the same machine, in an easy way. There's probably a certain directory that contains all of KDE4's settings, but will copying that directory restore all of KDE's settings and all of KDE applications's settings (from things like desktop color scheme to preferences like Kate's syntax highlighting colors to autostarting applications to global keyboard shortcuts to file associations, etc.). I'm trying to create an all-in-one script that basically recreates my computer's setup to replicate it as closely as possible on another computer. So far it only restores all the package repositories I have, and installs the same packages, so there shouldn't be problems like a missing desktop theme when restoring KDE's settings. So, this this doable? If so, what files/folders should I copy? My guess is that it's probably all of ~/.kde, or perhaps only ~/.kde/share/config... ![]() ![]() |

Copying all of ~/.kde is indeed correct. You may also wish to copy ~/.config and ~/.local.

It should also be noted that if several different distros are involved, some uses .kde (kubuntu for example) while others uses .kde4 (at least opensuse).

as a lot of programs put thing hidden in the ~/ directory (like FireFox, ~/.mozilla) you might also include ~/.*
