Hello,

I have an issue with saving system configuration. When I want to save changed Web shortcuts from Konqueror or save changes from kmenuedit, Updating system configuration dialog pops out. The problem is, it does not finish. At least not within 5 minutes or so.

Have anyone of you encountered this also?

I am running KDE SC 4.3.4 on Arch KDEmod

Thanks for any replies

I should also add, this does not happen always, for example after restarting everything is working fine...

Might it be related to another problem I am lately having? In particular, usually after running KDE desktop for a day of two, when I attempt to launch an application, a dialog pops out and says something like KLauncher was unable to start application XY. That application eventually starts, but it takes several minutes usually.

Does KLauncher supply any specific output as to why launching the application failed? ( such as a D-Bus timeout? )

For the "updating..." windows, after a few moments you should be able to close it without any harm at all. Just run "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" to make sure the changes actually applied.

Ok will try that next time. When I get the dialog again, I will copy the provided information and post it here. It should not take too long :)

So got it again, when trying to launch Konqueror, I got:

Sorry - KDE Daemon
Error launching konqueror.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application.

The konqueror itself started about 10 seconds after the dialog, usually it takes longer though.

klauncher process is running

One more observation, this usually happens after one or two suspends, when memory usage gets pretty high. Switching off compositing effects helps to make everything faster and also the dialog stops showing.

This is likely due to excessive swapping preventing KLauncher from responding to the applications request in a timely manner. This is due to a D-Bus timeout. The message can therefore be safely ignored.

I see, that sounds logical, thanks.
