troubles with composite

Tue Oct 21, 2008 7:41 am
Hi, community.
I am sorry for my bad English.
I have some trables.
System: openSUSE 11.0, graphics card Radeon 9200, with opnesource driver.
After an upgrade KDE from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 the composite has ceased to work for me. But Compiz works till now. Here that writes when I try to start:
"Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.

Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type."

In what there can be my problem?

Try using the KWin effects without compiz's enabled. Compositing managers can conflict with each other and other applications ( like google earth )

I had the same problem. You can see this post. showthread.php?tid=8480v

For me I was able to fix it by using the following command

Code: Select all
kwin --replace &

This will restart kwin. Hope this helps:-)

Hi,
I have the very same problem.
OpenSUSE 11.0, Radeon 9000, opnesource drivers.
After an upgrade KDE from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 the composite doesn't work with the same error message:
"Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.

Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type."

I tried some googling but no progress hasn't been reached.

Any ideas?

I'm not exactly sure if I have the same problem, but after an upgrade to 2.1.3 (running on Gentoo), my desktop effects just no longer works. Well, after I click apply settings, the screen goes black-ish and my windows turn white and blank. I don't get any change in effect and it just resorts back to no-effects after 10 seconds.
