Does Plasma support system shutdown/reboot without KDM or GDM login managers? (I use SLiM).
It seems using ConsoleKit and/or pam-ck connector gives support for this, but my self-compiled KDE only gives me Log out option. ConsoleKit is working here: $ ck-list-sessions Session1: uid = '1000' realname = '***** *******,,,' seat = 'Seat1' session-type = '' active = TRUE x11-display = ':0.0' x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7' display-device = '' remote-host-name = '' is-local = TRUE on-since = '2010-01-21T16:39:32.233648Z'

I self compile KDE and my system shows those options. I use KDM though. It could very well be possible that KDM is somehow involved in it.

The right component for the job is the session manager, called ksmserver. For shutdown and reboot, currently it supports only KDM, and any pre-D-Bus GDM (< 2.26 IIRC). Any other option, from more recent GDM to other login managers or ConsoleKit, is unsupported.

Why not just log into a terminal as root and do "poweroff"?

I do, some times. Most of the time I just press the power button. I just prefer a one step, clean shutdown from within the session. @pinotree. I guess I will fill a wish bug report. Thanks.
