Hi,
I have a laptop with separate keyboard and screen attached. My desired config is for the laptop screen to be disabled upon restart. However on startup both the laptop screen and attached vga are mirrored (with the vga at the much lower laptop resolution). Clicking display in system settings causes the display settings to revert to the correct settings (without any further config) ie, laptop screen disabled and attached vga at 1680 X 1050. The hibernate behaviour is subtly different. Upon restoring from hibernate both screens are again enabled, however the attached vga remains at the correct resolution. I am running kde 4.3.4 on ubuntu 9.10. I have followed numerous posts relating to krandrrc, most of which relate to enabling dual monitor support (the opposite of my problem). thanks |

Do you have krandrtray running when suspending or hibernating?

Hi ben,
As far as I can tell, I don't have krandrtray running. I launched it and it looks very similar to the app within the system settings. Are they one and the same? ps - ef | grep krandrtray returns no matches, so I can only assume I don't have it running. Interestingly, hibernate and resume now seems to be behaving correctly, however restart results in both screens enabled at the lower laptop resolution. thanks, Nathan |

KRandRTray and the System Settings control panel are the same. The difference is that KRandRTray remains running and provides convenient access to screen controls and will ensure the settings are applied.

With KRandRTray running at shutdown, restart now seems to work, ie only the attached VGA is enabled upon restart. However, with hibernate and resume, the laptop screen is once again enabled (mirroring the attached VGA). According to KRandRTRay, the laptop lcd is disabled. Clicking Identify Outputs, causes VGA1 to appear on both screens.
thanks, Nathan |

Unfortunately KRandRTray has no way of knowing when the system is resuming from Suspend, at least at this time.

Hi,
Apologies for not responding sooner and thanks for your replies. So, to summarise.... with or without krandtray, there is no way to resume kde from hibernate without having the laptop screen enabled? Nathan |

Correct. The system at this time has no way of knowing it was suspended. Ideally the graphics drivers would just restore their state to be the same.
