Antialiasing in KDM does not work

Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:47 pm
When KDM appears, it is obvious that the fonts are not antialiased. Here is some relevant info from my kdmrc:

Code: Select all
egrep -in 'alias|font' /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

26:AntiAliasing=true
29:FailFont=DejaVu Sans,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
31:GreetFont=DejaVu Sans,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
44:StdFont=DejaVu Sans,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0

Some things I have tried to remedy the situation:
- dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig did not work
- removing my kdmrc and replacing it with one from a system with antialiased fonts in KDM did not work
- changing the theme did not work
- running the graphical "login window" tool did not work

When I log in to KDE as any user (including root, a capability that I enabled only temporarily), the fonts on all Qt apps are antialiased.

You will need to modify the system font settings manually as I don't think it has a GUI.

On my Arch Linux system the file to modify is located at /etc/fonts/local.conf.
