Dolphin Split Panes

Thu Feb 11, 2010 9:18 pm
I hope I'm posting in the correct area.:)

I'm using PCLinuxOS with KDE4.

Anyhow, one of the features I really liked in Konqueror was it's ability to split the main navigation window into an unlimited number of panes. I could then move a file from directory to directory to directory to directory.:)

Dolphin only allows the main navigation window to be split in two. Are there any plans to make it more like Konqueror? or, is it possible to split it into multiple panes now?

I realize I can simply use Konqueror. But I've come to like Dolphin a lot.

As far as I am aware, the maintainer of Dolphin does not intend on supporting multiple split panes. You could try filing a feature request however.

I found it annoying at first, too. However, it's so easy to have a couple of instances of Dolphin, both split, and drag files between them. Four panes is normally enough for me, but I guess you could have more if you need to. It just doesn't bother me any more :D

Two instances of Dolphin open? I can see how this might be acceptable to some. And given the larger flat panels and high rez's, it's possible due to all the real estate available

But I much prefer multiple panes in one window. It's simpler. It's more organized.

I'd rather not open up two instances of Dolphin and move them side by side...reminds me of Windows too much.:)

Well I use a very run-of-the-mill laptop.

It's so long since I used Windows I never think of it. I use any method that works for me, and this does.
