Trying to figure out cause of KDE slowdown over time.

Well I must admit during that time I did use my computer for a lot of graphics-inclined tasks, mainly with GIMP or Blender. Is there no way to keep this down? (I understand this is probably out of KDE though)

Once the application is closed, X should destroy any pixmaps it was using and free that memory. I do not know where exactly the issue is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to applications being swapped out due to kernel disk caches.
