Don't know how to copy files using Konqueror

Hi everybody, I don't know if I'm on the right topic here (or even the right forum!) but I've got a bit of a problem - I have a broken desktop that won't boot up ("Security Tool") and I found this video on Youtube the other day about recovering files from a computer that won't boot up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP7y-XZv ... re=related

... I was able to boot the broken computer up with this Linux boot CD I made, and I could then go into the hard drive and see all my files there! But when it came to copying my files in the "Konqueror" environment (actually, I just need ONE main file in particular, an Excel spreadsheet I put a lot of work into lately), it wouldn't do it. I tried copying to a floppy disk - it said a message like "Error, cannot write file to disk" or something. I also connected a Seagate external HD to the broken computer and it recognized it and I could view all the contents on the external HD. I thought I had it made then, but when I tried to copy my important file to the external HD, it gave kinda the same error message. Would anybody have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!
Shawn

P.S: I have never used Linux or Konqueror in my life. I just tried this Youtube technique out of desperation.

The likely issue is that the Live CD is not mounting the medium in read-write mode. Make sure to use FAT or FAT32 formatted disks to avoid this.

thanks bcooksley, that might very well be it. Although I did try to use an old floppy disk I had lying around from years ago and it still wouldn't write to it. Wouldn't that old floppy have been FAT32?

If I buy a little USB memory stick, will that be FAT32?

Thanks
Shawn

Flash drives are usually formatted as FAT32, yes. I don't know about that Floppy, but it should have been FAT or FAT32, which should have been compatible.

Which *.iso did you download and from where?
