Doing great work guys. Still a bunch of stuff you missed. Some real blatant.
1) If I change themes (and I can't wonder why I can't access them in the same way as before and still have access through system settings) the desktop essentially goes blank. Have to log back out and in again to get the desktop. 2) After changing themes all my icons locations are messed up. The layout of my desktop changes and all are aligned to the left side. 3) After I get back to the desktop from #2 above and I begin rearranging the icons I find the "align to grid" is off, even though I had it on prior to logging back in after #2 above. 4) The cashew in the upper left is not aligned to the upper left precisely so when I go to move icons the desktop itself shifts a pixel or two up or down. Very weird. Not all of these occur when I change from theme to theme. Just some of the themes I had while using KDE 4.3.5. 5) I've gone through every option I could find regarding power management of the screen. I am trying to tell KDE *not* to dim nor turn off nor put to sleep nor affect my monitor in any way, yet no matter what I change it insists on turning the monitor off after a brief while. Please, when I say not to manage my screen I mean I don't want any screen power management. 6) In the US we don't put the numeric date before the month. I can't seem to get your system to display the date in the Feb 14, 2010 format. I would appreciate you taking the time to fix it. Being that you also don't support US english in your web forums account creation page I am leaning toward a belief that you are not being kind to us in the US. 7) I need to be able to turn off the "folder view like" popups that occur when my mouse pointer hovers over a folder. I would appreciate if someone could tell me precisely how to totally and utterly disable that feature. It is annoying to say the least. ![]() Those are just a few. If anyone can help resolve any/all of them I would appreciate it. |

assuming you just upgraded, did you delete your old .kde folder? Or rename it to something else beside .kde.....

I guess you use KDE SC 4.4? Which distribution?
Deleting your ~/.kde (or .kde4) is not recommended because you'll lose all your settings and KDE-related data, but you can always try to move/rename it and see if you can reproduce the issues. 5. Which power manager do you use? If it's the default one (Power Devil), you can configure it in System Settings -> Advanced -> Power Management. Check "Let PowerDevil manage screen powersaving", go to Edit Profiles -> Performance -> Screen and set the options you want. 6. System Settings -> Regional & Language -> Time & Dates. Hm, not being kind to you in the US? There are currently not many languages, so I guess we aren't kind to many countries. ![]() If you want you can always provide a language package for the forums (see this course for example). 7. Unfortunately not possible at the moment, you have to edit the source code and recompile to make them go away. 8. Could you please take a screenshot?

Please report Forum related issues in Feedback & Questions: viewforum.php?f=9
Regarding the date one, the Forum supports totally custom formats for that, even though at this time it isn't a selectable option. You can select "Custom.." then enter in your desired format using the symbols from http://www.php.net/date I have just installed the English ( United States ) language pack, although some components of the forum may not be translated ( These are the ones to be translated in the Course as they are KDE Forums specific )

Yes, I did delete the .kde folder because I had problems with a white screen when I tried to log in to the desktop.
A bit of history. I've been using Linux for years and have spent a good deal of time helping others--meaning I'm not a noob. Though I know the distribution can be an issue in this case it most likely is not. Some of these issues are very odd. Anyone else have any ideas? |

On the date response. I've long ago tried to correct the date format. Changing the date format doesn't alter the date display to the format I choose (yes, even after rebooting the computer). I've gone through this many times over and confirmed the issue time and again on numerous machines. It is not possible, as far as I can tell, to change the date to the format I choose. It will always revert to the DD MM YYYY when I try to put it at MM DD, YYYY. Even using variations of those formatting codes results in something other than I chose. That's why I posted the question here. You might want to give it a try. If you have success let me know what the codes for the format.
As far as the posting of the issues here, well, I really am not making suggestions or asking for ideas. I'm telling you that there are problems and am asking for a fix. These are some very annoying bugs that didn't exist prior to version 4.4 (except the date format). All of them are essentially new caused by this update, therefore they are bugs. Well, I guess the super annoying almost intolerable folder view things is also old. I would have expected the developers to have resolved this long ago, primarily due to the fact that it isn't a required feature and it is totally annoying. I'm not going to post bug reports because the system really fails the average person. I'm trying to get others to help me because the system of bug reports is one that is not conducive to the end user and becomes a protracted period of time where unwanted emails are sent to me and others with the first ones almost always being "unconfirmed, burying it", till someone else comes in and says that they can confirm it,then more time involving non-resolution responses. Thanks. I would appreciate any help on fixing my issues. Please don't direct them elsewhere or try to justify why you are directing them elsewhere. |

I just tested this, and after restarting Plasma, it obeys the setting I made.

I think you have a basic misunderstanding. User to user help is great for dealing with configuration mistakes. Bug reports are to tell the developers when something actually fails - and fails for more than just your system, unless you can prove that your system is perfectly set up. The point of a bug report is to help developers see what needs doing.

@annew
No, I have the right idea. These are issues that cropped up that I need a user to user answer to... So, thanks for your point of view. I have almost never received the number of non-replies that I have here, other than on your amarok.kde.org forums. On other forums with similarly phrased polite posts I get answers. Configuration help is not the sole basis for these forums. I think maybe that's why people here receive so many non sequiturs. @Administrator Your screenshot does not show the data/time format correctly. Your plasma panel only shows the date in military format. Please add the date to your plasma time widget verify that. |

Is this what you meant? Note that I never changed my long date settings, just the short date settings, but it is possible to ( as seen in that screenshot ).

I have always had a date problem with openSuse. I can go to the Time & Dates tab in Regional & Language settings and change the Time format and it will change the time format in my Widget correctly. But it does not matter what I set the Date format to, it always shows like this: Mon, 3 May 2010. I am now using openSUSE 11.2.

Which application is not respecting the change to the date format? If you reopen System Settings do the settings persist?
