to mount automatically every device, but it doesn't happen. Is there something else that must be done to make it work?

You need to mount the devices once first, for example by clicking on the "Open with dolphin" entry in the device-notifier.

After that, you open the settings for removable devices and check the two checkboxes.

As in this screenshot:

After that it should work.

Then what's the second from top checkbox there for? It seems it's for toggling mounting only known devices and mounting all devices.

If it's unchecked that's how I interpret it as well. I've never managed to get it to work on my system though, so I've used the method above as a temporary workaround. That being said, I'm positive I've seen a bug-report about the problem but can't seem to find it again.
