Hello,

I have KDE 4.1.3 "release 4.9".

I use Multiple Desktops, however when I change my Desktop I still see the applications from the previous workspace. This takes up a lot of space on the Taskbar.

I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop

Are there any other changes that I need to make.

Thanks,

Regards,
-H

your settings are correct, so it should work as expected.
Dunno if you encountered a bug, or that your configuration files are corrupted.

if you have multiple users, try if the setting works using another account on your computer.

i'm using kde 4.3 at the moment, and it has more refined options for sorting window buttons on the task bar.

I do not think I encountered a bug while installing KDE or OpenSuse.

Is the feature supported in KDE 4.1.3? Will updating to newer version of KDE do the trick?

it is supported in kde 4.1.3

like you said:
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop

kde 4.4 runs smoother than kde 4.1 so upgrading surely won't hurt.
the feature works on my system with kde 4.3 on opensuse 11.2 .

Is there a way I can figure out a fix without needing to update KDE.

did you try to create a test account to see if the problem is systemwide or somewhere in your personal kde configuration?

Just curious - why don't you want to upgrade? There's a huge difference between 4.1.3 and the latest version 4.4.1. Personally I didn't even consider 4.1.x good enough for everyday use...

And yes, this option works fine in newer KDE versions. If you want to show all applications in the taskbar, you can also try Smooth Tasks. I use this task manager to only show icons (takes less space) for windows on other virtual desktops and icon+text for windows on the current desktop.

KDE 4.1 was not intended for widespread use. The first version of KDE recommended for use was 4.2. You really should not be using 4.1 for anything. If you are going to upgrade it might as well be to 4.3 or 4.4.
