In Firefox and many other browsers, the fourth mouse button is automatically assigned to move back a page. Can Konqueror be configured likewise? I'm using KDE 4.4.2.

Unfortunately there isn't a KDE tool for mouse shortcuts yet (not to be confused with mouse gestures, which can be configures in System Settings -> Input Actions).
However, you can use an application called xbindkeys instead. I wrote a small guide for it some time ago: http://hanschen.org/2009/10/13/mouse-sh ... xbindkeys/ In the "Emulate key presses" section there's an example to get what you want:
in ~/.xbindkeysrc. (Note that you need to install xautomation to get xte, as explained in the link).

Yikes, just to get a back button. I'll give it a whirl, thanks.

You can do more powerful things with it as well.
If you don't want the whole guide, here's a short version for your needs: 1. Install xbindkeys and xautomation (should be available in your distro repository) 2. Create a .xbindkeysrc file in you home directory (~/.xbindkeysrc) and add the "code" in my previous post to it 3. Start xbindkeys, e.g. press Alt+F2 -> type 'xbindkeys' without '' -> Run xbindkeys 4. (Optionally) Add xbindkeys to autostart in System Settings -> Advanced -> Autostart Done!
