Thanks in advance,

It should display the size of the folder in the status bar by default. It can't display the size of sub-folders without right-clicking on the parent folder and clicking "properties". For the size of devices, go to the dolphin settings, General, Status Bar tab, and check "Show Space Information. You can also do View->additional information->size, but that only shows the number of files in a folder, not the size.

I'm using KDE 4.3, not sure if this is diffrent than 4.4. when you say "status bar", do you mean the one on the right hand panel with top that says "information"? That status bar only displays:
- name of the folder
- add comment and change tag links
- Modification information
- Type info
but no the size of the folder. But "Network" folder has size status though, odd.

I can view the device size info by clicking into the device under "places", then it shows the location of the mounted folder, and I can view the size by right click it and go to property. Is this the only way?

My file system in in a IDE hard drive (yes, I know it's old..), how can I view its status, like total size and size left?

thanks

The status bar in all applications is the bar at the bottom of the window that displays various information. The thing on the right is not a bar, it is called a "panel", in this case it is the information panel. If you followed my instructions, there will be a capacity bar on the far right of the status bar showing the size of the current partition and the amount of space left on that partition.

Hi BlackCat,
After I followed your instruction, the status bar only shows space left excluding the total size of the device. I'm using Dolphin 1.3, KDE 4.3. Maybe your advice is applicable to current version?

It doesn't have a numerical value for the total size, but it should be possible to tell pretty well from the bar.
