shrinking window with latex on emacs

I use emacs as my latex editor (using autex). Each time I compile a latex file (or call xdvi), the window (=frame in emacs-speak) reduces in height by 1 or 2 lines.
I set the frame size to 80 x 53 in my .emacs file, and after 3 compilations it's now 80 x 48.
What can I do to prevent it?

Thanks, James

I've just noticed - it has nothing to do with Latex. If I do ctrl-F then Ctrl-G (to cancel) the window gets shorter!

I'm asking here because I feel it's a window thing not an emacs thing.

Thanks,

I think its an emacs problem. My emacs doesn't think that the maximize button windows has any meaning. It shrinks to a size that emacs finds appropriate. I think emacs does not want to show partial lines.

Interesting suggestion - thanks. I'll ask the emacs people.

Sorry, I know it's an old thread, but I've just noticed it.

Anyway, this problem has also been reported elsewhere, in the context of
openSUSE (Bug # 590843 on SUSE/Novel Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.novell.com)

Reading that report, I am not sure whether it's emacs or what (for one thing, it seems that it is a problem appearing with KDE+Kwin only).

Anyway, I am currently using KDE 4-4.3 and Emacs 23.1.1 on openSUSE 11.2. We are now at KDE 4.5 and Emacs 23.2 (and openSUSE 11.3, for what matters), so I am wondering whether anyone using more recent version(s) still experiences the same problem.

I'm on kubuntu with kde 4.4.2 and emacs 23.1.10.
I cannat reproduce the openSuSe bug, atleast not the way it is described with latex-mode.
I don't have auctex mode.

Hmmm... and yet, in a previous post in this thread, it had been stated that it was not a latex-specific problem... In fact, I am having exactly the same problem with idlwave-mode.

Also: other KDE users had previously reported the same issue with some Ubuntu release:

http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get- ... l#poststop

So, from your report, it seems the bug has been fixed, at least in later releases of (K)ubuntu..

Or... In latex-mode, do you have the toolbar? For it seems the problem is related to the presence of a toolbar. More specifically, if I understand it correctly, it seems that the problem is with the icons:

http://www.mail-archive.com/bug-auctex@ ... 01410.html

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.devel/83693

(thanks to the bug reporter for these references)

So far, the only workaround (so to speak) I have found is to turn the toolbar off. It works both in latex (auctex) and with idlwave-mode.

If its the toolbar that this shrinkage depends on, then my test is not valid.
That toolbar annoys me. It's the first thing I remove, I don't understand it, its just a waste of space.
