Policykit kpackagekit

Fri Apr 09, 2010 4:01 am
I'd installed ubuntu 9.10 then i made an apt-get update, then... apt-get install kubuntu desktop... and finaly i'd remove all the gnome packages!!!!

But at the time to use kpackagekit it said that i didn't have enough privileges to perform any action (install, remove....) dam!

The system settings' policykit module for packages actions didn't list me , even i couldn't manage any policy at all...

So i did the proper thing : kdesu systemsettings ,i went to the policykit module as root and then i granted my self to install remove or upgrade using kpackagekit.

So, this is a sort of bug telling history that i wanted to share.

Please file a bug with your distribution, they need to ensure that their KPackageKit packages grant the needed permissions on install.

It's not a packaging problem. We don't modify the upstream policies. Please report your bug to bugs.kde.org.

Also KDE itself will not fix this. The only way for an authorization dialog in Karmic & KDE 4.4.2 is to install policykit-gnome.

In Kubuntu Lucid PolicyKit works again without problems.
