secret service error message

Tue Apr 13, 2010 3:41 pm
People using various tools have seen errors of the following format lately:

Code: Select all
** Message: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files

I get the error working with the subversion commandline client, others get it working with wireless tools, etc.

The only reasonable documentation I could find is from here:
http://people.gnome.org/~stefw/secrets/html/ch01.html

This API was desigened by GNOME and KDE developers with the goal of having a common way to store secrets. Its predecessors are the desktop specific APIs used by GNOME Keyring and KWallet.

Does anyone know how to avoid the message? I do not receive any other errors. The message is very annoying because it is printed out multiple times on the screen thus corrupting readability.

Please make sure that either GNOME Keyring or KDE KWallet are running. It is possible that neither have released their implementations of this at this stage, in which case you can do nothing other than ignore the message ( as it should not be fatal to other applications )
