Get back the trash in Dolphin

Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:55 pm
I accidentally erased the trash icon from the places panel in Dolphin and now I can't get it back.
Can someone please tell me how to do so?

Thanks!

Logout of KDE, then open the file ~/.kde4/share/apps/kfileplaces/bookmarks.xml

Insert the following text just before the last line ( </xbel> )

Code: Select all
 <bookmark href="trash:/" >
  <title>Trash</title>
  <info>
   <metadata owner="http://freedesktop.org" >
    <bookmark:icon name="user-trash" />
   </metadata>
   <metadata owner="http://www.kde.org" >
    <ID>1257057166/3</ID>
    <isSystemItem>true</isSystemItem>
   </metadata>
  </info>
 </bookmark>

Or right click in Places -> Add Entry... -> Location: trash:/ and choose user-trash icon -> OK.

What does

<ID>1257057166/3</ID>

mean? Could it be the same for all users on system?

Unfortunately I do not know what that ID number means. The "/3" on the end however likely represents that it is in the 4th position ( the numbering starts from 0 )

However, checking with another user on my system does confirm that the number is different for each user...

Code: Select all
<ID>1257396520/3</ID>
