How can template files be edited in kde 3.5.10?

In gnome desktop environment I believe it was something like '~/.gnome2/templates' or something loosely similar but I have tried searching, so far in vain?

Not sure about KDE 3, but KDE 4 follows the XDG standard, and the templates are stored in $XDG_DATA_DIR/templates, which is /usr/share/templates for system wide templates and ~/.local/share/templates for user local templates.
