Hi, I'm running PC-BSD 8.0 with KDE 4.3.5. When I try to search for a file in Dolphin, I get no results and an error message: "the process for the nepomuksearch protocol died unexpectedly." Out of curiosity, I rebooted the system into a Fedora 12.0 live CD, and got exactly the same result, so it's not a distro-related problem. Nepomuksearch does not show up in System Monitor, either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have Nepomuk ( and Strigi, required for indexing files, and thus search ) enabled? ( See System Settings > Advanced > Desktop Search )

bcooksley: I did not; in my ignorance of KDE, I didn't know that I had to.
My test is to find xorg.conf. Kfind locates it immediately, but Dolphin does not. Is there a switch I need to set for recursive search? I got an error message for strigli, indicating an installation problem, and I will take that back to the PC-BSD forum. Many thanks! |

By default Strigi only indexes files in your home directory. You can change this in the Desktop Search module (System Settings -> Advanced -> Desktop Search).

Ok! Does that mean that I can't search anything from dolphin that strigi hasn't laid hands upon ?
Unleashing Strigi on a big partition like that is like giving rabbits to a hungry lion. |
