I'm not sure if this is the best forum to post these issues in but I saw this post here> viewtopic.php?f=66&t=85833 and some of his issues are things I've been experiencing too.
I had just updated to the new version and right off the bat I notice that every time I restart the computer I have to log into my user account. This sounds like an easy problem to fix but I don't know where I need to go to get an automatic log in. I am the only one to use this computer and I shouldn't have to log in every time, cause I would just press the power button step away from the computer and come back and it's ready for me to work on. The Theme I have set up for this computer used to have commands on the sides of the widjets I have up on the desktop such as "resize" or "Delete". Those commands don't show up at all. It is also very difficult to change themes at all, and I find it odd that you would move it to a different section, yet not be able to change themes without needing to customize the whole thing. And where do I go to install new themes? Photoshop is difficult issue in that I have to use WINE to get it to work, so that means there is something up with WINE that is causing this to happen. Before the upgrade I would click on the History window and back to the document window with no problem. What WINE is doing now is creating all other windows in Photoshop like separate programs. I'll click on the history window to undo a move and when I click back to the document there is a serious lag that effects the speed of which I am able to draw. This was not a problem I had before this and I would like to know how to fix it, if it means to reinstall Photoshop or WINE. These are a few things that I've come across and I'm ok with the themes being messed up but if I can find out where I can set the automatic login section, I can live with Photoshop being glitchy for until I can't stand it anymore...which won't take long. |

This is configured in System Settings -> Advanced tab -> Login Manager -> [enter root password] -> Convenience -> Enable Auto-Login. This assumes that you use KDM, the login manager shipped with KDE Software Compilation. Which distro do you use?
Are your widgets locked? You can unlock them like this.
What kind of themes are you thinking of? Most of the settings are found in System Settings -> Appearance. For Plasma Workspace themes, it's System Settings -> Appearance -> [Style] -> Workspace tab, where you also can download and install new themes (Get New Themes).
This sounds like a Wine issue. Did you update Wine as well? You can try to run winecfg (e.g. from the Alt-F2 dialog) -> Graphics -> try to change "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" and "Allow the window manager to control the windows".
Just a general comment: it's usually better to keep separate questions in separate topics and choose a descriptive subject for each, since it's likely that more people who know the answer will take a look. ![]() This will also make it easier for persons with the same problem to find a solution.

Thanks, I'm still new here so I'm never sure how to approach issues.
That 1st one I was able to find but the others are not answered. The widgets were never locked. To install new widgets a special bar shows up at the bottom of the screen but the only way to remove a widget now is to right click and choose remove. ![]() I won't worry about the themes for now, but I think it might have something to do with photoshop and WINE. WINE and Photoshop are still acting up even after that setting adjustments. ![]() If this isn't the cause of the lag (seriously this didn't exist before the update, I wish I could show you a video of what I'm seeing when I'm using photoshop), what would be another direction should I take? Would upgrading to CS3 really help? Plus I think that WINE has been updated, but I'm not sure if it has. |

Can you please verify that all your packages were upgraded during the upgrade?
Also, please try removing /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER outside KDE.

Highly unlikely. The themes won't affect the look of Photoshop but neither Photoshop or wine should affect the themes otherwise.
The glow can be turned off. Start system-settings and select Appearance, and then Windows. The Window-decoration is probably set to Oxygen already (only one with glow as far as I know). Select the "Shadows" tab, and uncheck "Active window glow". Press apply. AFAIK there is no way of telling the system to treat Photoshop as just one window instead of several ones.

Regarding the theme, I had a similar problem when I upgraded. To solve it, I uninstalled the theme from System Settings -> Appearance -> Workspace -> Get New Themes. I also removed the corresponding directory in ~/.kde4/share/apps/desktoptheme (might be .kde instead of .kde4 in your case) and deleted the cache files as suggested by bcooksley.
I'm not sure all of this is needed, but after installing the theme again it worked for me.

OK thanks guys, I bet I sound like an annoying Noob with some of these questions. Taking off the glow seemed to help a bit but photoshop still appears to treat the other windows as separate windows. I'll still have to check if I need to Update WINE, but I'm just debating if I should just install a newer version of photoshop instead.
I'll get back to you guys on the updates on these issues as soon I have the time, but thanks again. The little things help a lot. |
