Hello there!

I have a strange yet not so serious, but annoying problem. I recently installed KDE 4.4.4 on Arch Linux x86_64 (fresh install), and I noticed several missing icons in diffrent places. I will point out 3 of them:

1. Installed Redshift from AUR and icon in System Tray is missing (question mark appears instead). It was there in my previous installation of Arch Linux x686 with KDE.

2. Installed wicd and the wired connection icon is missing in the main window. It also was there in my previous installation.

3. In Akonadi configuration, the icon for the Akopnadi Resources Configuration Tab is missing

There are several other icons that I noticed missing, but I don't remember them right now.

Any ideas?

Can you reproduce under a new user?

Do either Wicd or Redshift use the new freedesktop.org dbus based system tray protocol? This is usually indicated by a glow appearing around the icons when you hover over them.

No I hovered the mouse over them and no glow appeared. Could this be related to konqueror not updating my favicos when I press update favicons from edit bookmarks? (I imported the bookmarks from html file from firefox)

The issue shouldn't be related. It is likely that KDE is failing to find the icons, possibly due to stale caches. Please try removing /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/ outside KDE.

I exited kde via ctrl+alt+F1, stopped kdm, and removed the folder...Still nothing! Now konqueror cannot update favicon of kde forums!

I'd try a different icon scheme. Perhaps a bit of switching or reinstalling the oxygen icon scheme will do it. Having said that - wicd is a gtk app and no idea what redshift is.

Are all missing icons non-KDE apps? I've got wicd with KDE on my Thinkpad T41 and have no such problems...

I have the same issue... But changing Icon Scheme solves some of the missing icons (the ones with question marks...). Maybe they are really missing on the icon set?

For example on KDE 4.5 Beta2 with the Oxygen icon set, the Activities icon is a question mark, but if I change to another icon set, it shows a proper icon...

Redshift and wicd are gtk applications. But as I said I noticed that in KDE's applications too. Maybe they happen for different reasons.

The Oxygen icon set, even on trunk built about 18 hours ago, still has the unknown icon for Activities.
