kde 3.5 under opensuse 11.1.
once the screens are blank, a little three or four note sound is played a random intervals. on just a couple of occasions i was sitting at the desk when this happened and was able to catch a dialog box that said "...locking screen...". i do not have screen locking enabled. i have gone into kpowersave and disabled notifications. how can i turn off this sound? or remove/rename the sound or the application making the sound. anything to kill it off. thanks. |

The screen saver can also be locked by the screen saver if I recall correctly. You will find Screen Saver settings in "Configure Desktop" in the K Menu.

the first i tried was to disable notifications. right click on the desktop, configure desktop, display, power control, configure kpowersave. then for each of the four schemes, miscellaneous and click disable notifications.
if i go into Personal Settings/KDE4 (Configure Desktop), screen saver, i can only find a radio button for "require password to stop" which is not checked. i did catch this again this morning, the box says "preparing to lock keyboard". its real hard to catch since it takes my samsung monitor so long to come out of standby. i did stumble onto that the sound being played is KDE-Sys-App-Negative.ogg. i have half a notion to delete that sound just to kill it. the monitors are in standby and this sound keeps going off several times a hour, 24 hours a day. |

If you are using KDE 3, then you need to use the KDE 3 control center ( command "kcontrol" ) to change screensaver settings.

kcontrol is what i've been running. opensuse has two entries in the launcher, the other is systemsettings. the screen saver dialogs have the same settings.

Unfortunately I do not know then why this has occurred.
